Domain expertise

A futurist’s life invariably involves the need for a deep dive into an industry, market or academic domain with which he /she is unfamiliar. Even when the domain is somewhat more familiar or when one can claim expertise in a particular domain, the level of futures research required to deliver an exciting future-focused perspective on the domain is daunting. At The Futures Lab, Inc. over the past 20 years or so we have developed future programs for clients in virtually every industry and topic area, in multiple countries. It is our view that before embarking upon an event that endeavors to reflect the future, it is necessary to undertake at least a minimal level of foresight research in order to not just demonstrate potential trends and direction, but moreover how these can integrate into a broader potential future landscape. While some of our work at FXL and its predecessors has covered more generic themes, such as play, living systems, homes, education, imagination, augmented worlds, etc. we have also created future-focused themes and content for client events that cover everything from the future of the construction industry to emerging communications technologies and the future of country specific development. Creating a future landscape for the theme is a critical start-point for any living the future event.
