Narrative encounters

The theme provides the framework or structure for the event narrative. From McCaffrey’s “Free Play” to Disney’s “Story Engine”, modern narrative is frequently described as a traveler exploring connections between the story, memory, collaborations, interaction and technology. In event terms, we need to also imagine the performance space, and a network of sub-stories.

Accordingly, multi-sensory elements are embedded and accessible including natural elements, music, emotional stimulation, atmospheres and environments. Transmedia storytelling is fast becoming an exciting way of presenting event narrative and the excitement and encounter of the voyage.

By applying simulation techniques and parallel realities, the narrative begins to take on a life that allows us to see which event elements enrich and augment the core theme. We can use filters/lenses like “dimensions of uncertainty”, “convergence mapping” and “sensitivity mapping” to ascertain the likely level of encounter and immersion and to integrate in situ, real-time feedback.

We also need a design storyboard brief that considers the aesthetics and look; the feeling generated and color cues. Domain relevancy customized to the expected audience provides the harmony. AR overlays are fast becoming a method of enhancing the visual narrative in order to explain the intricacies of the voyage. Once the general narrative is agreed, we are able to create an event planogram and to curate the preferred content, which will inspire the visual rendering of the narrative.
